Comparison: Kryolan Aqua Color vs Makeup Crayons

I’m going to switch things up a bit today and veer from the usual format because I’d like to tell you a story.

It was Easter. We decided to have a party. Of course, it had to be a themed party. I chose Zombie Bunny as the theme.

I offered to my guests that I would help everyone get zombiefied using my selection of professional makeup tools/items from Kryolan, while we ate baked goods and drank cocktails. Continue reading

Origins Fringe Benefits Mascara

I’ve been loving the Origins counter lately. The reps are all super helpful without being overbearing. I asked about samples and the man who helped me gave me a whole bunch and asked if I wanted to try their Fringe Benefits mascara.
“Heck yes!” I said, “it’s the perfect size for my purse!”

Here’s how I use it:
– Feel rushed and leave without putting your makeup on at home.
– While waiting for your BART train to arrive, apply mascara.
– Do not drop (like I did, after the last time I used it. There is no # of seconds rule when it comes to eye products and the floor of public transportation.)

Urban Decay Afterglow Blush – Fetish

One of my favorite makeup companies is Urban Decay because I love their colors and that they have an extensive line of Vegan products. I’m not vegan but I have vegan friends and I like to think that they can have fun applying brightly colored makeup without sacrificing their principals.
Today I’d like to tell you about their Afterglow Blush in the color Fetish.

Origins Underwear for Lids Primer

Having recently re-discovered Origins products, I came across their eyeshadow primer called Underwear for Lids – The smoothing lid primer (not to be confused with Underwear for Lids – Delicate color for eyes)

Here’s how I used it:
– I walked into Macys with no makeup on and went to the Origins counter.
– There was no customer service rep there (10am on a weekday) so I found the Underwear for Lids and spent a bit of time trying to figure out which was the color and which was the primer.
– I found the primer, wiped it down well with a tissue (the same technique would have been used by the customer service rep, had s/he been there) and applied it to my lower lids.
– The first layer was a little thin so I added more to get the coverage I wanted – it was fun to use the lipstick-like stick

Urban Decay Glitter Liner – Spandex

I have a weakness for glitter and sparkles. I admit it. I could blame it on the current “season” and say I’m being festive…
Anywho, when I saw Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Spandex (which is described as “black, accented w/ rainbow”) I had to have it.

Here’s how I use it:
– I prep my eyes with primer and then apply whatever eyeshadow is of the moment.
– If I’m feeling dark and mysterious (snarf), I apply black liquid

Cargo Botanical Lipstick

2/15/14 UPDATE Alas, this beautiful color has been discontinued. 🙁
——-
5/2/10 UPDATE I went to Sephora to get some of this lipstick for my mom and was told they “lost the brand.” It seems that one can only purchase it at Sephoras that are inside JC Penny now, as well as other retailers. You can order straight from their website, tho.
——-

I have a thing for lip stuff. Not a day passes when I don’t put on at least two different lip products. I especially like lipstick and am rather picky about it. Cargo‘s Botanical Lipstick in the color Nahinni is my new favorite lipstick.

Burts Bees Super Shiny Natural Lip Gloss

Update: Sadly, Burts Bees discontinued this lovely lip gloss

When I was in high school I wore makeup almost every day. I was especially fond of red lipstick and I wore dark matte colors – never lip gloss. Lip gloss was for the girly girls and I was a dark and brooding art class girl with a leather jacket and a tough attitude.
These days I still wear lipstick but I’ve toned it down a touch. I still don the almost-black-but-really-it’s-dark-purply-red lipstick that I loved so much back then, but usually only when I’m getting all done up for an event. Now that I see clients who look to me for advice about their skin, I stick with more accessible colors on the day to day. And this means that sometimes I get tired of wearing lipstick.

So at Walgreen’s one day, I saw Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Natural Lip Gloss (discontinued – broken link – broken heart) in Zesty Red and I thought, “why not? it’s Burt’s Bees AND it’s red”.

Here’s how I use it:

Sometimes I put it on top of lipstick. While this gives the lipstick more depth of color and makes my lips shiny, I don’t care for it. It makes reapplication much more necessary than I like for lipstick.
However, when I wear it alone, it makes my lips feel super sexy and hydrated. My boyfriend says it looks pretty sexy too!

Emani Pressed Mineral Foundation

I’ve been using Ginger – 291 from Emani’s pressed foundation line for about two years now and I love, love, love it.  I have a few clients who also love it after trying it per my suggestion.

Here’s how I use it:

I use the sponge to apply under my eyes and it mattifies and covers the dark circles without ever creasing or looking like I’ve got makeup on.

lost treasure found – yay!

3/6/10 UPDATE Having recently discovered the WP import from Blogger tool, I was able to export this one (slightly relevant) esthetic post from my old blogspot blog. It’s old, but it belongs here, now that this exists. 🙂
——-

Last night as I was preparing my toiletries for a visit to Santa Cruz, I discovered a cache of makeup products that I thought I’d lost a looong time ago (at least a year).
They were in the small outside pocket that I don’t use very often – soo rad. Continue reading
